Thru Jan. 3 - The 2009 Christmas Show

Constantly compared to Radio City Music Hall, American Music Theatre’s Christmas Show is widely hailed as one of America’s best. When Sister Julia, Child of God, accidently poisons most of the covent with her cooking, the remaining sisters must put on a show to raise money to bury the last four "blue nuns" in the ice box! The musical includes a kick line of nuns and so many jokes, you'll remember why they call it "habit-forming"!

Christmas memories jump to life as a brand-new sensory experience highlights the return of Miracle of Christmas to the Millennium Theatre. As the aroma of special holiday treats fills your breath, you'll have the opportunity to interact with characters and animals from the Nativity story. The Millennium Theatre will be grandly decorated with lights, greenery, Nativity scenes and a spectacular thirty-foot Christmas tree.

Filled with snappy dialogue, show-stopping tap numbers and a wise-cracking love story, this bigger-than-life show will brighten the holiday season for your entire family. So come and meet those dancing feet on the avenue we’re taking you to— 42nd Street!

Thru Jan. 11 - Ice Skating Performances - Longwood Gardens, US Route 1, Kennett Square, PA 19348, 610-388-1000. National, world and olympic skaters—including Olympic pair team Tiffany Scott and Philip Dulebohn and Olympic ice dancer Alexey Beletsky—perform fun 20-minute skating vignettes daily (weather permitting).

Thru Jan. 11 - Scenes of the Season: Paintings and Illustrations from the Collection - Brandywine River Museum, U.S. Route 1, Chadds Ford, PA 10317, 610-388-2700. Winter landscapes and classic images of the season from The Night before Christmas, A Christmas Carol and other stories will delight visitors this holiday season. The special exhibition will feature charming images drawn from the museum's extensive collection, including works by Winslow Homer, Felix O.C. Darley, Maxfield Parrish, Jessie Willcox Smith, N.C. Wyeth, Thomas Nast and Edward Redfield.

Thru Jan. 11 - Golden Impressions of Andrew Wyeth by Donald Pywell - Brandywine River Museum, U.S. Route 1, Chadds Ford, PA 10317, 610-388-2700. Inspired by the art of Andrew Wyeth, goldsmith Donald Pywell has created necklaces, rings, brooches, bracelets, earrings and sculptural creations of gold, silver, ivory and precious gems. Each piece appears in a shadowbox setting designed by architectural designer T. Mark Cole.

Thru Jan. 11 - A Brandywine Christmas - Brandywine River Museum, U.S. Route 1, Chadds Ford, PA 10317, 610-388-2700. The museum celebrates the season with fabulous holiday displays including an extensive O-gauge model railroad (click here), an elaborate Victorian dollhouse, and thousands of whimsical "critter" ornaments on holiday trees.

Thru Feb. 21 - I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change - Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre, 510 Centerville Road, Lancaster, 717-898-1900. Off-Broadway's longest running hilarious musical celebrates the modern day mating game from dating and looking for love, the in-laws, newborns and trips in the family car. If you liked last year's hit Mid-Life, you'll love this musical comedy!

Beethoven Series piano concert and colloquia featuring Anne Koscielny playing Sonatas Op. 31 No. 1, Op. 90, Op. 54, Op. 53. A play by Jessica Blank & Erik Jensen that tells the true stories of five men and one woman who spent up to 22 years on death row before they were found innocent.

With the success of Mamma Mia the movie and the musical, music from your favorite 70s Swedish pop stars is back and bigger than ever! Jan. 9 - Second Friday - Downtown Lititz, PA. Historic Downtown Lititz is bursting with energy every 2nd Friday of the month. Each month Downtown Merchants are happy to announce great family activities and entertainments, free and open to the public, in stores and venues throughout the downtown shopping area. Come a Little Bit Closer,” coaxes premier rock & roll revival band, Jay and the Americans. They burst on the scene in the early ‘60s with their clean-cut looks, melodic harmony and wide appeal, and are still creating excitement wherever they appear today! Kenny Vance, founding member of Jay and The Americans, now heads up the sweet sounds of doo-wop masters The Planotones. “Looking for an Echo,” their signature song is also a major motion picture about an oldies group trying to make a comeback. A lot has changed for AMT favorite Billy Ray Cyrus since he last appeared here in 2005. Billy Ray has gone from being most known for his “Achy Breaky Heart,” to being now known to millions of new fans simply as “Miley’s Dad.” He is also one of the stars of the Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana. Join us for an evening of country music fun as Billy Ray and his smokin’ hot band make a rare Central PA appearance.

Jan. 16 - musicFRIDAYS - Downtown Lancaster, PA. Each third Friday of the month, Downtown Lancaster hosts Music Fridays. Performances will abound throughout the 300 block of North Queen Street as well as retailers, restaurants, and attractions throughout Downtown. Each month will bring new entertainment to the streets of Downtown Lancaster. 6:00 - 9:00 pm.

Jan. 16 - 18 - Stravinsky's Firebird - Lancaster Symphony Orchestra - Fulton Opera, 12 N. Prince St., Lancaster, PA. 717-397-7425. Stravinsky, Firebird - An upbeat, soaring flight of fantasy that combines the romance of Tchaikovsky and the spice of Rimsky-Korsakov. Chopin, Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor, Op. 21 - Michael Sheppard, piano. A delicate, yearning work laden with lilting melodies for virtuosic fanfare. Kodály, Dances of Galánta - The richness and raw vigor of Hungarian folk music melds simplicity with elaborate moments of improvisation.

Jan. 17 - Chubby Checker with Otis Day & The Knights - American Music Theatre, 2425 Lincoln Hwy. E. (Rt. 30), Lancaster, PA 17602, 717-397-7700, 800-648-4102. Who is the only artist to have a song become #1 on the charts twice? None other than South Philly High’s own Ernest Evans. Who, you may ask? You know him better as Chubby Checker and the song was “The Twist.” Chubby pioneered the dance song craze with other hits like “The Fly,” “The Pony,” “The Limbo Rock,” and “Let’s Twist Again.” When DeWayne Jessie took the role of Otis Day, lead singer of the fictional Otis Day and the Knights, in the movie Animal House, he not only played Otis—he became Otis! Since then, the fictitious group took to the road, touring and performing party hits like “Louie, Louie,” “Shamalama Ding Dong,” and of course, their infamous toga party rendition of “Shout.”

AMT favorites Scot Bruce and Mike Albert perform as the young and old Elvis, respectively, to consistently sold out audiences, and are widely considered the premier Elvis impersonators of our time. Scot Bruce’s Elvis act is revered all over the world—places like Japan, Brazil and China. Mike Albert has been featured on Oprah Winfrey and Inside Edition, and often appears with Elvis’ original group, the Jordanaires. Long live the King!

Jan. 24 - March 15 - Unique Force: The Art of Carolyn Wyeth - Brandywine River Museum, U.S. Route 1, Chadds Ford, PA 10317, 610-388-2700. Carolyn Wyeth grew up in a family of artists, yet developed her own profound mode of expression. This exhibition, the first in 30 years, includes over 40 paintings and drawings that span her career, as well as fascinating portraits of her by her family members. The subjects are her immediate surroundings - a chair, a pumpkin, props from the studio, and familiar places. She painted to please herself, caring nothing about innovation or competition in the world of art. She was also a teacher for more than 30 years, cultivating a band of devoted students.

In fact, the three wins of Elvis’ 14 Grammy nominations were for gospel recordings— including the album How Great Thou Art (1967). In his own special way, the one and only Mike Albert reveals Elvis’ Gospel side. His renditions of these sacred songs are so realistic, you’ll think Elvis himself has returned!
