It's the turn of the century and the the World's Fair is coming to St. Louis. Based on the classic MGM movie that starred Judy Garland, it features the hits Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, Skip To My Lou, The Boy Next Door, and of course The Trolley Song.

Thru March 15 - Unique Force: The Art of Carolyn Wyeth - Brandywine River Museum, U.S. Route 1, Chadds Ford, PA 10317, 610-388-2700. Carolyn Wyeth grew up in a family of artists, yet developed her own profound mode of expression. This exhibition, the first in 30 years, includes over 40 paintings and drawings that span her career, as well as fascinating portraits of her by her family members. The subjects are her immediate surroundings - a chair, a pumpkin, props from the studio, and familiar places. She painted to please herself, caring nothing about innovation or competition in the world of art. She was also a teacher for more than 30 years, cultivating a band of devoted students.

Observe the 327th birthday of the Commonwealth, amid Pennsylvania made and operated historic rolling stock, here at the Keystone State’s official railroad museum. Open to the public free of charge.

March 10 - 12 - STOMP - American Music Theatre, 2425 Lincoln Hwy. E. (Rt. 30), Lancaster, PA 17602, 717-397-7700, 800-648-4102. Who knew that ordinary household items could ever sound so good? The originators of STOMP, a group of street performers, created a pulsating rhythm using everyday objects in non-traditional ways. There's no speech, no dialogue, not even a plot. Just a lot of high-energy performances guaranteed to have you out of your seat and wanting to join in.

March 12 - Bill Charlap Trio - Longwood Gardens, US Route 1, Kennett Square, PA 19348, 610-388-1000. Keyboardist Bill Charlap is regarded as one of the premiere interpreters of the Great American Songbook who supplies a rigor-meets-romance musical sensibility. “Jazz pianist Bill Charlap approaches a song the way a lover approaches his beloved. When he sits down to play, the result is an embrace, an act of possession.” Time Magazin

March 12 - 29 - The Spitfire Grill: A Musical - Fulton Opera, 12 N. Prince St., Lancaster, PA. (717)397-7425. After her release from prison, Perchance Talbott needed a place to make a fresh start. Inspired by an image of "autumn colors along Copper Creek near Gilead, Wisconsin…" from an old travel guide, Percy picks a town on its last legs. The small, remaining population has been beaten down by years of adversity and false memories of a perfect past. Hannah, the cantankerous owner of the Spitfire Grill — who just wants to sell the grill and move on, but can’t find a buyer — reluctantly takes Percy in. And the town will never be the same again. After the rumors and speculation about Percy's intentions die down, the denizens of Gilead uncover the hope that had been lying dormant for decades.

Since he first arrived in the USA, comedian Yakov Smirnoff has built a career on his perpetually awe-struck Russian immigrant persona. The fall of Communism has not slowed him down one bit. The love story of Ethel and Norman, returning to Golden Pond for the forty-eighth year. They are visited by their divorced daughter and her fiancee, who go off to Europe and leave his teenage son with them for the summer. The boy becomes the grand child they have longed for. They are all brought even closer by the incident of a heart attack. Perhaps another summer on Golden Pond awaits.

March 20 - musicFRIDAYS - Downtown Lancaster, PA. Each third Friday of the month, Downtown Lancaster hosts Music Fridays. Performances will abound throughout the 300 block of North Queen Street as well as retailers, restaurants, and attractions throughout Downtown. Each month will bring new entertainment to the streets of Downtown Lancaster. 6:00 - 9:00 pm.

Who could forget that growling lyric from lead singer Eric Burdon, one of the seminal figures of the 1960s British Invasion! During his tenure with The Animals, Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame member and legendary singer Eric Burdon has charted 25 Top 40 hits including classics like: “House of the Rising Sun,” “We’ve Gotta Get out of This Place, “ “Spill the Wine, ” “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, “ and more. Sharing the bill at AMT will be The Spencer Davis Group. Formed in 1963, The Spencer Davis Group was the epitome of blue-eyed soul, doing their part to bring British Rock and Roll to the rest of the world. Former Executive Director of the Columbus Zoo, Jack Hanna brings his family-friendly animal show on the road. Through his nationally syndicated television show Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures, and hundreds of appearances on the Late Show with David Letterman, Good Morning America and Larry King Live, animal expert Jack Hanna has become a household name. Jungle Jack’s live show features many of his favorite animal friends, as well as fascinating and humorous stories and footage from his adventures around the world. Following enormously successful solo tours, Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood, stars of the Emmy-nominated program Whose Line Is It Anyway?, have teamed up to present an evening of extraordinary improvisational comedy. Using their quick wit, Colin and Brad take contributions from the audience to create hilarious and original scenes. Throughout the evening, the show becomes truly interactive as audience members are called to the stage to participate in the fun. March 28 - Heirloom Seed Project - Grafting Workshop - Landis Valley Museum, 2451 Kissel Hill Rd., Lancaster, PA. 717-569-0401. Bring a scion from an old apple or pear tree or choose from a variety offered by the Heirloom Seed Project and graft it onto our rootstock to make your own "antique" apple or pear tree. Scion wood is offered by the Backyard Fruitgrowers Association. Registration/materials fee.

Country legend George Jones continues to make his brand of county music, which has produced hits in every decade of the second half of the 20th century. In fact, Jones has had more charted singles than any other artist in any format of popular music. One of the greatest honky tonk singers of all time, his songs include: “White Lightning,” “Tender Years” and “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” Vintage Country never sounded so good!
